VILLAGE of PINEHURST, North Carolina (November 3, 2008) -- Something about Pinehurst Number 6 appealed to the spirited competitors from the Ross Team, as they closed a 6-point deficit down to a 1-point deficit heading into tomorrow's singles matches at the Pinehurst Invitational.
A second-straight day of four ball match play saw several upsets, including a Czarnecki family grudge match that saw the father and son team of Jack and Jay Czarnecki sweep Jay's brothers Eric and Kevin for 3 points. Eric and Kevin looked to be unbeatable after a best-ball net of 62 on Sunday at No. 4. As it worked out, they still won the Net medal play title by 5 strokes over Gary Meadors and Roy Paxson from Florida. Paxson and Meadors have picked up a perfect 6 points in their two days of matches.
In the Championship Division, Danny Le of Bridgestone Golf continued to play solid golf, but his shoulders got a bit tired as Pete Wlodkowski of amateurgolf.com couldn't muster up any of his Sunday birdie magic. The two finished at 1-over par for the 36 holes, to tie for low gross with the father and son team of Doug and Dan Potter of Idaho.
"I think you should card off from the first hole of the first round," quipped the elder Potter. (The two had birdied the first two holes that day...)
The round of the day went to Carl Everett and Mike Miller, who in the over-50 senior division fired a best ball 67. Everett shot 3-under 68 on his own ball, on a day that saw none of the players remove their wind jackets as a light mist blew into the area overnight. Miller was there when Everett needed him, at the last hole, a bear of a par-4 that played into the teeth of the wind. "I got up and down from the bunker, what can I say," remarked Miller.

Second round results from the Inaugural amateurgolf.com Pinehurst Invitational follow. Please note: The 36-hole best-ball competition concluded today. Tuesday's singles matches will determine the final outcome of the Ryder Cup-style team event -- the "Ross" and "Fazio" teams are separated by a single point and 36 points are up for grabs in the (12) 3-point matches on Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 2.
