Alabama, Duke share Darius Rucker Intercollegiate 36-hole Lead

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (March 4, 2017) -- Established in 2012 the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate has had just two winners in five years. Alabama won the championship in 2012, 2013 and in 2016 while Duke won the titles 2014 and 2015. Now with one round remaining in the sixth edition of the event the only two teams to win the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate are 5-over and tied for the 36-hole lead. No. 5 Alabama started the day as the four shot leaders but struggled to a 7-over tally that pushed them back into a tie for the lead. The Crimson Tide were paced on Saturday by medalist leader Kristen Gillman. With rounds of 68-71 Gillman is 3-under and the individual leader by a shot. During her second round, the freshman carded five birdies and four bogeys. Gillman will lead defending champion and teammate Cheyenne Knight and Linnea Strom of Arizona State, both of whom are 2-under by a shot when play resumes on Sunday. Sophia Zeeb of ASU is in fourth place at 1-under. Through 36-holes the Blue Devils are being paced by the fifth place and even-par Sandy Choi. The senior had a nice bounce back day following a first round 2-over 73 with a second round 2-under 69. Duke, 3-over in their second round, has also been to helped to the lead by junior Gurbani Singh (T6; +1) and world No. 1 Leona Maguire (T9; +2). Third place in the team race is No. 10 Arizona State (+8), No. 14 and host South Carolina (+12) is fourth while No. 8 Georgia (+19); No. 19 Baylor (+19) are fifth.
