UCLA junior Lucas Lee wins fifth collegiate tournament, leads squad to third title of the season in Georgia

EVANS, Ga. (April 6, 2008)--Junior Lucas Lee won his fifth collegiate tournament and the sixth-ranked UCLA men's golf team captured its third title of the season at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at The Champions Retreat in Evans, Ga. The Bruins' final round team score of 20-under-par 268 tied a school record set last year at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz. UCLA finished with a 36-hole score of 552 (-24), 16 shots in front of Georgia (568, -8). East Tennessee State was third at 569 (-7), followed by South Carolina at 573 (-3). North Carolina, which began the day in second place two shots behind the Bruins, fell to fifth at 575 (-1). The tournament was shortened to 36 holes following the suspension of play on Saturday due to heavy rains. In winning his first tournament of the season, Lee carded a final round 65 (-7) for a 36-hole total of 134 (-10). Following a bogey to go one-under at the fifth, Lee played the final 13 holes in six-under par. Senior Kevin Chappell overcame a double-bogey at the third hole to play the final 15 holes in six-under par. His hot streak was ignited by an eagle at the par 5 ninth. He tied for third at 138 (-6). Junior Erik Flores also tied for third and fired a final round 67 (-5). Flores had seven birdies and two bogeys on his card. The Bruins were so sharp on Sunday that they dropped a score of two-under par 70 posted by freshman Philip Francis. Francis tied for 23rd at even par 144 Senior Craig Leslie jumped 32 spots on the leaderboard with a final round 68 (-4) and tied for 47th at 147 (+3). Gareth Shaw of East Tennessee St. was the medalist runner-up at 8-under 136, while Georgia's Adam Mitchell joined the two Bruins in a tie for third at 138.
