ROUND ONE RECAP
Behind a 7-under 65 from co-leader Luke Schniederjans the fifth-ranked Georgia Tech Yellowjackets are 12-under and one shot in front of the surprising 11-under Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Just three shots back in third are No. 16 Clemson at 9-under, Wake Forest sits in fourth at 7-under while No. 20 Florida State is 6-under in fifth place.
Schniederjans played a nearly perfect round on day one at the Old North State Club rolling in eight birdies against just a single bogey. Following a par on the opening hole Schniederjans quickly caught fire birdieing six of the next 10 to reach 6-under.
Georgia Tech also received under-par rounds from Chris Petefish (T12; -3) and Tyler Strafaci (T18; -2).
Sharing the lead with Schniederjans is Virginia's Danny Walker. Beginning on the 10th hole Walker started birdie, bogey and then got it going with a birdie on the 12th and an eagle two on the par-4 13th. Walker would then go on to add birdies on Nos. 18, 1, 3 and 4.
Walker is hoping to become the second consecutive Caviler to win the ACC medalist title after Jimmy Stanger won last year.
Paul McBride (Wake Forest) is 6-under in third while five others are 5-under in fourth including Clemson's Doc Redman.
Redman is returning to the college game fresh off two consecutive weeks playing with the professionals at the Masters and the RBC Heritage.
