A typical day at The City: A player's car burns up, he returns to win his match the next day

For Ben Peters, a post-match ride home winds up in a roadside car fire - but he and his clubs survived so he could win his quarterfinal match

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 6, 2016) -- Out of the four semi finalists surviving two days of match play -- one of them in pouring San Francisco rain -- Ben Peters had the wildest ride. As Peters reported on Facebook: "My white wagon caught on fire on the freeway and as I pulled over it went up pretty quickly. Took the fire department 20-25 minutes to arrive and put it out while 911 gave me a busy signal" ..... "Didn't lose much except for some clothes and a bunch of golf balls. My snowboard was in there too. I did save my clubs tho!" Stirred, definitely, but shaken -- not enough to take his eyes off the prize. Peters returned to the course Sunday and defeated high school senior Raj Chekuri, 4&2. He will play Daniel Connolly in next Saturday's first semifinal, while Noah Sheik will play Marcus Potter on the other side of the bracket.
