FLEETWOOD, PA (July 26, 2016) -- After a long day of golf, J.D. Dornes has taken the 36-hole lead at the Pennsylvania State Amateur. Dornes presently sits at 10-under to lead by three-strokes at Moselem Springs Golf Club. Play was suspended on Monday afternoon with the first round unfinished. When play resumed on Tuesday the first round was completed before the second round began, roughly an hour later than originally scheduled. Starting on the 10th hole, Dornes turned in 2-under after birdies on Nos. 12 and 13. On the front nine, Dornes got going in a big way with birdies on the 2nd and 4th holes, setting the stage for two eagles in the final three holes. The first came on the par-5 7th while the second came as a result of a bunker hole out on the short par-4 9th. When the sand settled Dornes had fired a second nine 6-under 29. In the second round, the former Nittany Lion rolled in four birdies and bogeyed three holes. Cole Miller will begin the final round in second place at 7-under with Christopher Crawford at 6-under in third. Miller and Crawford will join Dornes in the final group teeing off at 10:30 a.m. EST. Carey J. Bina is 3-under and in fourth while two others sit at 2-under to share fifth.
