The Stanford junior broke a record set by another Stanford star, former world amateur No. 1 Rose Zhang
The Augusta National Women's Amateur has been good to Stanford players over the years.
And now, Stanford junior Megha Ganne is lighting it up at the ANWA.
Ganne leads the 2025 championship after an opening round bogey-free 9-under 63, a new ANWA scoring record. The previous low round at Champions Retreat Golf Club was former Stanford star and world amateur No. 1 Rose Zhang shooting 7-under 65 in the second round in 2023.
Champions Retreat Golf Club is the site of the first two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday, and then there is a cut, and the top 30 and ties play Augusta National on Saturday. There is a practice round on Friday.
The previous low first-round score was 6-under 66, which Zhang shot in 2023 and Hannah Darling matched last year.
Starting on the back nine, Ganne made birdies on holes No. 11, 12, 13, and 16. On her second nine, she had an eagle at the par-5 No. 3 and added birdies on holes No. 1, 6, and 7. She had an eagle putt on the closing par-5 No. 9 but three-putted for par to sign for 63.
This is Ganne's fifth appearance at ANWA, and she has made the cut each of the past two years. She is currently ranked No. 28 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
