After holding a four-shot lead heading into the final round last year and finishing T2, the duo won this year in a playoff
Anthony Estorga and Jake Istnick won the 49th Texas Four-Ball Championship at Braeburn Country Club with a 20-under 196. They secured the title on the first playoff hole after finishing the final round with a 4-under 68.
Starting the final round with a three-stroke lead, Estorga and Istnick faced Nickolas Martinez and RJ Hernandez, who shot a 10-under final round. Estorga and Istnick's victory was secured on the first playoff hole.
“It does feel good,” Istnick told the Texas Golf Association after the round. “We came awfully close last year, and, of course, there was maybe a little bit of a bad taste in our mouth. We were ready to redeem ourselves, and Anthony played awesome today. I was cheerleading a little bit and helped out a little, but it feels great, honestly.”
Estorga and Istnick are no stranger to state and regional events with the Texas Golf Association and have now secured their first state Four-Ball title.
“It’s fun that we played well, and it’s not bad for a couple of 40-something-year-olds,” Estorga joked. “One for the old guys, I guess, but it’s great, and I love playing with Jake. We have a good time.”
In the Senior Division, Trevor Hyde and Tray Turner of Kerrville won with a 17-under 199. Mike Lohner and Todd Vancil finished second with a 16-under 200, and Mike Peck and Steve Love took third with a 13-under 203.
In the Super Senior Division, Doug Harker and Bill Houghton of Plano won with a 6-under 210. John Grace and Bill Holstead were second with a 4-under 212. Tom Burns and Michael Puls, along with Richard Hageman and Raymond Garcia, tied for third with a 3-under 213.
