Jasmine Leovao bounced back after finishing runner-up at the SCGA Women's Amateur a month ago

The 2024 SCGA Women’s Match Play Championship came down to two familiar faces teeing it up against each other for the first time in a formal match. The Leovao twins, Jasmine and Janae, had been talking all week about the possibility of playing against each other once they saw their names on opposite ends of the bracket on Monday.

And as fate would have it, it was a battle of the twins on Wednesday at Spanish Hills, with each of their parents on a bag. The Long Beach State products had impressively mowed down their previous three opponents to set up an exciting end to the week.

Jasmine raced out to an early three-hole lead before Janae got one back with a birdie on the sixth hole, sticking her tee shot to a couple feet for an easy tap-in. Janae cut into the lead again with another birdie on the tenth hole, shrinking her sister’s lead to one hole.

But Jasmine pushed back by taking the next hole, then chipping in for birdie on the 12th hole to regain her three-hole lead with six to go. Another birdie from Jasmine on the 14th hole proved to be the dagger. She ended the match on the ensuing hole to win 4&3 and clinch her first SCGA title.

Jasmine’s 2024 season has been nothing short of exciting. She’s coming off her second consecutive season as an individual medalist at the 2024 Big West Championship with Long Beach State, becoming the second LBSU golfer to advance to the NCAA Championship.

She also finished runner-up at the SCGA Women’s Amateur in July before clinching a spot in the quarterfinals at the California Women’s Amateur a couple weeks later.
