Dan Sullivan and Tim Hogarth shot 67 on Friday to lead at the SCGA Public Links Championship

PASADENA, Calif. (Aug. 23, 2013) — The SCGA Public Links Championship kicked off its third-straight appearance at Brookside GC in Pasadena Friday, and some of the club's most familiar faces again find themselves leading the pack at this 54-hole event. Defending champion and Brookside GC member Dan Sullivan and 2011 champion and former Brookside GC member Tim Hogarth each shot 4-under par 67s on Course No. 1 to take a share of the Round 1 lead. All 100 competitors will switch over to Course No. 2 Saturday morning before the 36-hole cut which will send the top 30 golfers into Sunday's final round. "Winning the event last year was definitely a highlight for me, so I wanted to come back and play well," said Sullivan, who's win last year was his first SCGA individual title. "I'm glad I was able to play so well." Sullivan's round got off to a rocky start, as the SCGA Tournament veteran bogied the par 4, 316-yard first hole. He would put together a clean score card the rest of the way, however, bring his score back to even par at the turn before carding four birdies on his back nine. He was able to match Hogarth's score with a tough birdie on the par 4, 443-yard No. 18, one of just seven golfers to shoot under par on the course's finishing hole. Hogarth, a member of Los Canyons GC but former longtime member of Brookside, had a colorful scorecard Friday, mixing three bogeys in with his seven birdies. He was able to take advantage of the course's shorter holes, collecting birdies on two of Brookside's three par 3s, as well as the longer ones, recording under par scores on both of the course's par 5s. Sitting just one stroke behind the two veterans are Joshua Shou of Los Angeles and Kyle Pollema of Lakewood. Tied for fifth place is 2013 SCGA Foursomes Champion Dick Engel and Rancho Santa Margarita resident Jeff Coburn.Tee times for the tournament's second round begin at 7 a.m. The net flight of the event begins Saturday, with 65 golfers teeing off on Course No. 1 at 7 a.m. The net flight will then also conclude on Sunday.
