Women's Trans-Nat'l: Ashley Freeman prevails 4 & 3

Ashley Freeman's birdie barrage sinks Lindy LaBauve of Lousiana State University

DALLAS, Texas(July 19, 2008)--It took eight birdies at Bent Tree Country Club today for Belleville, IL- native Ashley Freeman to emerge as the Women’s Trans National Golf champion over Lindy LaBauve, a rising sophomore at Louisiana State University. Freeman won 4 & 3 in the 36-hole final match. Freeman will be a junior at Texas A&M University. She was named to the National Golf Coach’s All-Scholar Team in 2007 and 2008 as well as to the All-Academic team of the Big 12. She began her golfing career playing in the Gateway PGA Junior Program and continuing in AJGA events before earning her scholarship at Texas A & M University. “I’ve played in three TRANS Championships and I suppose the third is the charm,” said Freeman. “I definitely plan to return for the fourth – I love this championship!” LaBauve, daughter of swing coach Mike LaBauve, plays out of Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Mike was his daughter’s caddie during the championship. After 33 holes in today’s final match, LaBauve had recorded six birdies. “This was my first time to play in the Trans championship,” said LaBauve. “I hope it won’t be my last.” The 2009 National Championship will be conducted in Tennessee, at the Tennessee National Golf Club designed by Greg Norman. The dates for the championship are July 20-25, 2009.
