Women's Trans-National: August Kim starts hot

Kim fires three-under 68 for first round lead

ELGIN, S.C. (July 29, 2014) -- Purdue's August Kim leads the Trans-National Amateur after Tuesday's first round of play. Kim posted a three-under 68, which included five birdies and two bogeys, and leads Eunice Yi by a stroke. Yi holds solo second after a two-under 69. Her round was quite unique, as she birdied the first hole, parred the next 16, and closed with birdie on 18 to card the bogey-free 69. Only six of the 91 competitors shot even or better on Tuesday, as the Members Club at Woodcreek bared its teeth and separated the strong from the weak. 2013 champion Hannah Suh did not return to defend her title.
