BLUFFTON, SC (June 16, 2016) -- Sometimes the process of transferring schools can be stressful, apparently that wasn't the case for Lauren Stephenson. Earlier in the week Stephenson announced that she was transferring from Clemson to Alabama and on Thursday she took home the Women's Eastern Amateur title in a playoff victory over Purdue's August Kim.
Both players finished the 54-hole event 7-under before Stephenson was able to outlast Kim in the playoff at Pinecrest Golf Course.
Stephenson strung together rounds of 68-67-74 to reach her 7-under score. During her lone season at Clemson Stephenson put together a banner year becoming the first ever female golfer to reach the NCAA Women's tournament. Before heading to Clemson Stephenson was a 2014 first-team Rolex Junior All-American.
Kim, a senior, won the 2016 Big Ten Championship with a 54-hole tournament record 9-under, 207. At the Women's Eastern Amateur Kim fired rounds of 70-68-71 to reach the 7-under mark and the playoff.
Maria Torres (Florida) finished 4-under and in third while Ashley Holder (UCF) and Sarah Bae (NC State) were 1-under and tied for fourth.
