LAKE GENEVA, Wisc. (June 16, 2011) -- In the final match of the Wisconsin State Golf Association's 2011 Match Play Championship, Jack Schultz defeated Ricky Hearden, 1-up, in 19 holes.
Both players made three birdies on the day but Schultz's consistency, on the Brute Course at Links at Grand Geneva's par-4's in particular, was the difference maker in the match.
The match play portion of the event began with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo claiming the No. 1 seed. Romo made it past the first round before falling in the quarterfinal.
Steve Johnson, who defeated Romo, eventually to Schultz, who was on a destined mission for victory.
Hearden, who started as the No. 23 seed on the opposite side of the bracket, rolled through match play and into the finals before falling to 24th-seeded Schultz.
