William Nottingham takes Tennessee Match Play, Bob Rice is Senior winner

Incoming Clemson freshman William Nottingham continued an impressive summer on Sunday at The Bear Trace a Harrison Bay

HARRISON, TN (July 31, 2016) -- After four days of championship golf William Nottingham captured the 2016 Tennessee Match Play Championship adding to an already stellar year in amateur golf. The Kingsport native, who will enter Clemson University this fall, won the 2016 Tennessee Junior Amateur one month ago defending his 2015 title and put on an absolute clinic this week at The Bear Trace a Harrison Bay. Nottingham defeated Phillip Lee 3&2 in the round of 16, then defeated Hays Moreland 5&4 in the quarterfinals. Tyler Johnson was the only thing standing between Nottingham and the finals, and with his 1 up victory Nottingham secured a date with UT-Chattanooga’s Lake Johnson. Nottingham was victorious by a 3&1 margin over Johnson to claim the 2016 Tennessee Match Play Championship. SENIOR MATCH PLAY RECAP In the Senior Match Play Championship Bob Rice of Pikeville was the man of endurance winning both his semi-final and final match with extra holes. Rice defeated Scott Patton 1 up in the round of 16, then Mike Freels 1 up in the quarterfinals. Rice had to go 21 holes before besting Danny Green to set up a final match with Richard Keene. Rice’s birdie at the par-4 first (19th hole of match) was enough to capture the 2016 Tennessee Senior Match Play title.
