Wild Round of 64 complete at USGA Sr.

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. (Oct. 1, 2012) -- With the first round of match play complete at the 2012 USGA Senior Championship at Mountain Ridge, a number of the biggest names in senior golf are moving on. Stroke play medalist and Walker Cup captain Jom Holtgrieve was a 4-and-3 winner over Patrick Tallent. In the Round of 32, Holtgrieve will take on Gerardo Ramirez, who bested Jeff Burda, 2-and-1. Paul Simson, who took the No. 9 seed, defeated Steve Rogers, 1-up and will face Kevin Carey, who moved past Grady Brame in convincing fashion, 5-and-4. Defending champion Louis Lee continued his title defense with a 3-and-2 win over Martin West. He'll face Jay Blumenfield, who upset Doug Potter, 5-and-4. Jim Knoll upset fifth-seeded Chip Lutz 1-up and will move on to gace Sam Till, Jr., a 2-and-1 victor over Emile Vaughan. George Zahringer knocked off Dave Szewczul, 1-up and Doug Hanzel prevailed over Brady Exber in 21 holes. Randy Lewis, the 2011 U.S. Mid-Am winner, also moved into Round 2 with a 3-and-1 win over Dennis Vaughan. Second round play begins Tuesday morning with the Round of 16 being played in the afternoon.
