Wright, from Aledo, followed his opening round 1-over par 73 with one of two under par rounds of the Championship. Wright carded five birdies against four bogeys to sit at even par 144 through two rounds. Wright sits five strokes ahead of Tom McGraw and six in front of Sam Boyd and Gary Kirwan.
McGraw, from Montgomery, followed his opening round 1-over par 73 with a 4-over par 76 and sits at 5-over par 149 through two rounds. Boyd and Kirwan, of Horseshoe Bay and McKinney respectively, have each posted two rounds of 3-over par 75 through 36 holes to sit tied for third at 6-over par 150.
First round leader Tom Melcher is tied for fifth with Ray Iler at 7-over par 151 while defending champion Jerry Hudgins bounced back from an opening round 82 with a 2-under par 70. Hudgins sits alone in seventh place at 8-over par 152.
Georgetown’s Don Grider, who was tied for second after the first round in the Legends Division, posted a second round 3-over 75. Grider’s two-day total of 9-over par 153 is good for a five stroke lead over second place Mike Rice, from Houston. Currently in third place in the Legends Division is San Antonio’s Bob Hullender.
Players had a short rain delay during the afternoon of the second round while a line of thunderstorms made their way through the East Texas region.
Play will once again begin at 8:00 AM off of hole #1 with the Legends Division going first. The Super Senior Division will follow the Legends with the leaders, Wright, McGraw and Boyd, beginning their final round at 10:20 AM.
