Walicki, Hoops surge to Trans-Miss Four-Ball lead with 62

With nine combined-score birdies and just one individual bogey on Tuesday, the pair moved straight to the top.

After the first round of the Trans-Miss Four-Ball, Arizona-based teammates Adam Walicki of Phoenix and Bryan Hoops of Chandler had some ground to make up. But with nine combined-score birdies and just one individual bogey on Tuesday, the pair moved straight to the top of the leaderboard at Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Bee Cave, Texas.

After finishing a stroke behind the lead after Day 1, a 9-under 62 in the second round was big. At 15-under 127, heading into Wednesday’s final round, the two are now six ahead of the next closest team.

Teammates Josh Swanson of Austin and Creighton Honeck of Bee Cave moved into the second spot in the Mid-Amateur division, finishing with a 9-under 133 after two days. Two teams are tied at third at 7-under 135: RW McDonald and Colby Harwell, both of San Antonio, Texas, and first-round leaders Casey Nelson and Kane Hanson.

An impressive and rare double-eagle went on the books at the par-5 eighth thanks to Spanish Oaks member and Bee Cave resident William Douglas. After his approach shot, Douglas’ teammate, caddie and competitors did not see the ball roll in the cup and were surprised when they walked onto the green.

Still leading the senior division are Lawrence Field of Tulsa, Okla., and Steven Hudson of Vestavia Hills, Ala. Field and Hudson shot a solid 4-under 67 to bring them to 12-under 130 on the tournament. Their lead improves to a comfortable eight strokes over three teams tied for the second spot with two-day totals amounting to 4-under 138.

California teammates Dave Sheff of Dana Point and Rich Tolly of Laguna Niguel remain at the top of the super senior division after shooting a 6-under 65, putting them at a two-day 12-under 130 score. Sheff and Tolly’s lead grew to seven strokes slim heading into Wednesday’s final round, as Steven Hakes of San Diego and Douglas Pool of Las Vegas moved into second with a two-day, 5-under 137 total.
