OLD WESTBURY, NY (August 24, 2016) -- Less than a week after making it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Wake Forest sophomore Cameron Young finished even-par and in second place at the 101st Metropolitan Open thanks to a 3-under 67 in the final round.
Young, who won the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational during his freshman year at Wake, got off to a sweltering start in his final round at Glen Oaks Club, with five front nine birdies and he turned in 5-under 30.
“The last few days I hit a lot of shots to 18 or 20 feet, and today I hit a couple that felt nice and ended up a foot or two,” said Young, the low-amateur for the second year in a row.
Now at 2-under Young began to run out of steam on the back nine as he bogeyed three holes and birdied just one to finish his round with a 2-over 37.
Young, the two-time defending Ike Championship winner, shot rounds of 70-73 on the first two days and began the final round 3-over.
Mark Brown won the Metropolitan Open for the third time finishing 4-under.
