Wagner, Martin win Olympia Fields Four-Ball

Mike Wagner and Brett Martin shot a final-round 69 and beat Michael Slaven and Mark Sider in a playoff

ELGIN, Ill. (May 24, 2013) -- The weather turned pleasant and scores turned into the red on the final day of play at the 2013 Olympia Fields Four Ball, a major of amateurgolf.com. In the Mid-Amateur Division, the team of Mike Wagner and Brett Martin shot a final-round 69 and finished tied atop the leaderboard with Michael Slaven and Mark Sider. The team of Wagner and Martin prevailed on the first playoff hole with an easy par while Slaven and Sider both lipped out par putts to make bogey. The teams of Travis Mitchell and Tyler Stalker and John Finnin and Todd Mitchell tied for third place. Mitchell and Stalker carded a 68 Friday. In the Senior-Am Division, Michael Alsup and Ken Kee finished their dominating performance with a final-round 65 to win by eight shots. The winners led with an opening-round 70 on Thursday. The 36-hole four-ball event is played on the North and South Courses at Olympia Fields Country Club. The club has hosted the U.S. Junior and will be host of the 2015 U.S. Amateur. This is an invitational event with invitations usually being sent to U.S. Mid Amateur qualifiers and other players of note.
