The tournament featured two divisions (Open & Senior) competing on a signature Donald Ross- designed golf course and annually attracts a strong field of amateur golfers in one of the most prestigious team events to kick off the tournament season.
The Virginia Team of Vincent Nadeau (Zion Crossroads, Va.) and Brandon Grogan (Martinsville, Va.) edged out the North Carolina team of Joe Jaspers (Huntersville, N.C.) and Jim Autry (Concord, N.C.) in a playoff to win the Open Division. Both teams completed the tournament with a two-round score of 137, 7-under-par. Nadeau and Grogan are the fourth team to win consecutive titles in Mid Pines Invitational history. The team of Chris Cassetta (Kernersville, N.C.) and Daniel Neveau (Pinehurst, N.C.) rounded out the top three with a 5-under-par score of 139.
In the Senior Division, Sherrill Britt (West End, N.C.) and Lee Forbis (Pinehurst, N.C.) won first place, finishing with 12-under-par score of 132. Last year’s champions, Dean Channell and Tuck Burkinshaw, both from Cary, N.C., finished in second with a 9-under-par score of 135. Dick Hogan (Burlington, N.C.) and Keith Waters (Raleigh, N.C.) tied with Duff Wagner (Taylors, S.C.) and Bobby Hines (Greer, S.C.) for third place with a score of 137.
