UCLA leads Northrop Grumman; 2 more Pac-12 teams in top 4

The Northrop Grumman leaderboard is top-heavy with Pac-12 talent as UCLA, Stanford and USC are all in the top 4

Pac-12 teams occupy three of the top four spots after one day at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, one of the first women’s college events of the spring season. UCLA, playing without top-ranked amateur Lilia Vu this semester, leads by four shots at Palos Verdes (Calif.) Golf Club.

The Bruins leaned on senior Bethany Wu and junior Clare Legaspi, who produced rounds of even-par 71 on Sunday. Patty Tavatanakit added 73 and the last counting score, a 76, came from Mariel Galdiano.

Vu, of course, is planning to turn pro this spring after earning her LPGA card last fall.

UCLA leads Stanford, at 11 over, by four shots and Texas, at 14 over, by seven shots. USC and Ohio State are tied for fourth at 15 over.

USC is the top-ranked team in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings after three team victories in the fall.

Texas’ effort was led by Agathe Laisne, who had a 2-under 69 for the individual co-lead. She shares it with Wake Forest’s Letizia Bagnoli.
