NEWTON, Kan. (July 18, 2014) -- The championship match is set at the 2014 U.S. Public Links Championship.
Following Friday morning's quarterfinals at Sand Creek Station Golf Course, Michael Gellerman, Doug Ghim, Byron Meth and Jess Bonneau advanced to the afternoon semifinals. That was where Ghim and Meth continued their impressive runs at the final playing of the event before it gives way for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball starting next year.
Meth, a golfer at Pacific University, knocked off highly-ranked Bryson Dechambeau of SMU with a 1-up victory in the morning quarterfinal before defeating Bonneau, a Houston native, 6 and 5.
Bonneau, earlier in the day, had beaten Rico Hoey, the red-hot USC star 5 and 3.
Gellerman, who plays at Oklahoma and hails from the region moved on with a quarterfinal win over Robert Geibel before falling to Ghim, the highly-touted incoming freshman at Texas. Ghim advanced with a 1-up victory.
Meth and Ghim tied for medalist honors and serve as the No. 3 and 4 seeds, respectively.
