Turner, who lives in Stuart, Fla., had his best FSGA finish earlier this summer at the Amateur Public Links, where he was T-4. It was his only top-5 finish of the year. Turner also came in T-26 at the Florida Amateur. He won the 2017 Florida Amateur Public Links.
Kevin Johnson and Matthew Marino are tied for third at 2 under.
Gary Nicklaus, the son of Jack Nicklaus and a U.S. Amateur qualifier this year, is part of a tie for fifth at 1 under. Nicklaus opened with 74 but climbed the leaderboard with a second-round 69.
Joe Alfieri – a reinstated amateur who has won the Florida State Match Play, Mid-Amateur and Four-Ball championships – is tied for seventh with Ken Kinkopf. Both players are at even par and both had back-to-back rounds of 72.
The 36-hole cut fell Saturday at 13 over.
