Following a Lone-Star studded first round, the 40th Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship saw cool temps, little sunlight, and a splash of rain on Wednesday in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Through the tough conditions rose the cream of the crop in each respective flight.
In the mid-am division, San Antonio’s Colby Harwell & RW McDonald who began the day two back of the lead posted the low round of the tournament so far regardless of division. The Texas duo carded a 7-under 65 for a 36-hole total of 133 and a one shot lead over round one leaders Richard Bradsby & Brian Dorfman (Denver, Colorado). Behind the two teams in double digits is the team of Trip Kuehne (Southlake, Texas) and his partner Dan Crockett (Franklin, Tennessee).
Amongst the elders, first round co-leaders Don Dean (Austin, Texas) & Mike Lohner (Southlake, Texas) command a four stroke lead after building upon their opening 4-under 68 with a 6-under 66 on Friday. Atlanta’s Greg Greenbaum & Jack Larkin lurk just two shots back as they took advantage of softer conditions following their opening 69 with a 5-under 67.
It appears to be a two horse race in the senior division between those two teams as the next closest team sits at four under for the championship with just 18 holes to play.
In the super-senior division, Doug Hopton-Jones (Mansfield, Texas) and Ed Turner (Richardson, Texas) rose from their second place position following Tuesday’s opening round. They hold a three shot lead at 4-under 140 over rond one leaders Lester Devitt (Concord, Massachusetts) and Charles Yandell (Cashiers, North Carolina).
