Torrey Pines wins Southern California High School Championship

While Torrey Pines won the team title by six over Loyola, Norman Xiong of Temescal Canyon took home the individual victory

PASADENA, Calif. — Torrey Pines High School took home the CIF/SCGA Southern California High School Championship title on Thursday, totaling just two-over for five players at Brookside Golf Club's Course No. 1.

The Falcons were led by Jamie Cheatham's two-under par 70, while the rest of the counted scores were one-over 73s.

Cheatham, a senior, has committed to play next fall for Cal while fellow senior Toby Song will join the UNC Tar Heels for his freshman year. Cheatham's score was good enough for a tie for third in the individual ranks.

Coming in second place was Loyola High School of Los Angeles at eight-over 368. Junior Brandon Bueno led the Cubs with 70 while Owen Calvin-Smith also shot under- par, posting 71.

Westlake Village rounded out the top-three teams, all of which will advance to the California High School State Championship at Poppy Hills on June 3. Also advancing were the top-nine players not on an already- advancing team.
