Todd Hendley once again leads the South Carolina Senior

Hendley has won the last two South Carolina Senior Amateur championships

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (May 7, 2017) - Another year and the same story as two-time defending Champion, Todd Hendley holds the lead after the first round of the SCGA Senior Championship at Dataw Island. Hendley, a member of the Thornblade Club, shot a first round score of three under par 69 to hold a one shot lead over Walter Todd and Geno Berchiatti. On a day where only three players managed to break par, the 58-year-old Greer resident made four birdies in his first ten holes to get to four under par. A steady string of pars got him to the 509-yard par five 18th hole where he made his only bogey of the day after finding the water going for the green in two. Hendley said “it was the only bad shot I hit all day.” Geno Berchiatti (Greenville) and Walter Todd (Laurens) were the other two players to break par for the day with scores of two under par 70. Berchiatti managed four birdies on the day against only two bogies for his opening round. Walter Todd had to work a little harder on his back nine making three birdies and four bogies, including one on the last hole of the day.
