BURBANK, Calif. (April 24, 2016) -- He's won the tournament four-straight times, and one other. And today Tim Hogarth of Northridge gave life to another run, winning his third-straight Kelly Cup title at Burbank's Lakeside Golf Club.
The impeccably manicured host course counts dozens of Hollywood celebrities on its membership roster, in a perfect location below Universal Studios and just a block or two from Warner Brothers.
Hogarth's game travels well, and as a past USGA Public Links champion he competed in the Masters. But there is something about Lakeside that particularly suits his game. It requires a precision tee and iron game, but equally important the ability to get up-and-down from some healthy rough that surrounds the Max Behr-designed club's small greens. Oh, and while on those slick surfaces your putter better be cooperating.
Hogarth didn't fire the lowest round of the tournament, but after opening with a round of 74 he posted two straight rounds of even-par 70 on the 6714 yard layout. His tournament total of 4-over 214 was good for a 4-shot victory over Tyler Crawford of Indio.
Crawford posted the lowest round of the tournament on Sunday -- a final round 67-- to finish in solo second (6-over) while Robert Funk of Canyon Lake closed with 68 to finish in third at 7-over.
