Three share Carolinian Amateur First Round Lead

James Harris, Quinn Tardif and Gaston Bertinotti are tied for the first round lead

BUIES CREEK, NC (May 19, 2017) - Gaston Bertinotti of Lillington, North Carolina, Quinn Tardif of Charlotte, North Carolina, and James Harris of Lillington, North Carolina all sit tied in the first round of the 2nd Carolinian Amateur. The trio holds a one shot advantage after finishing four-under 68.

"I think I did pretty good today after the start that I had," said Bertinotti. After finishing one-under on the back nine, he knew he would be fine. "I play at Campbell, so I know the course," said Bertinotti. "I think I managed myself around the course pretty well. I just keep things simple and calm and try to hit as many greens as I can." Familiarity was also key for Harris. "I have been around this golf course a long time," said Harris. "I got a few breaks early in the round, made only four puts, but all in all, a solid round of golf."

Tardif made seven birdies and three bogeys on the day, but he is confident going forward.. "I was able to hit a few close approach shots on my back nine, than my front nine," said Tardif. "Right now, I am in a good position. If I do what I did today, I should be in a good spot."

Michael Burr of Charlotte, North Carolina dunked in a ace on the par-3 7th using a 5-iron from 178 yards. "That is probably my first hole-in-one in 30 years," Burr joked. It makes his second-career ace. In all, 12 golfers broke par out of 135 players.
