A total of 24 amateurs teed off on Thursday, with six finishing inside the projected cut line after round one. But after the cut only three remain: Jeff Wilson (Fairfield, CA), Mike Finster (St. Petersburg, FL) and Robert Funk (Canyon Lake, CA).
Finster, playing in his fourth straight U.S. Senior Open, shot rounds of 72-75 to join Wilson in a tie for 50th place.
Funk, who was the only amateur to make the cut last year at Salem Country Club in Massachusetts, will play the weekend again this year but he had to birdie the last hole to so. Funk is 8 over, making the cut on the number.
Tim Hogarth (Northridge, CA), who shot an even-par 70 to lead the amateur contingent after the first round, skied to an 81 and missed the cut by three shots.
