Three Amateurs Make the Cut at the U.S. Senior Open

Of the 24 amateurs who started the 39th U.S. Senior Open on Thursday, only three remain at The Broadmoor

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 29, 2018) - The cut was made after Friday's round two of the 39th U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor, with three amateurs advancing to the weekend.

A total of 24 amateurs teed off on Thursday, with six finishing inside the projected cut line after round one. But after the cut only three remain: Jeff Wilson (Fairfield, CA), Mike Finster (St. Petersburg, FL) and Robert Funk (Canyon Lake, CA).

Wilson shot 76 on Thursday and then got off to a slow start Friday, going 3 over on his first three holes. But he was flawless the rest of the way, going two under without dropping any shots, to finish with a 71 and a 7-over 147 total.

Finster, playing in his fourth straight U.S. Senior Open, shot rounds of 72-75 to join Wilson in a tie for 50th place.

Funk, who was the only amateur to make the cut last year at Salem Country Club in Massachusetts, will play the weekend again this year but he had to birdie the last hole to so. Funk is 8 over, making the cut on the number.

Tim Hogarth (Northridge, CA), who shot an even-par 70 to lead the amateur contingent after the first round, skied to an 81 and missed the cut by three shots.
