The Players Amateur: Mills inches out victory

Corbin Mills, hot off a U.S. Pub Links win at Bandon Dunes last week, captures the Players Amateur in South Carolina

BLUFTON, SC (July 10, 2011) -- After struggling on the front nine, Corbin Mills came from behind today to shoot 4 birdies on the back nine for a final round 72. His 12-under-par, four day total was enough to win the 12th annual Players Amateur by one stroke. Mills inched out LSU's Curtis Thompson and Patrick Rodgers from Avon, Indiana who both scored 11-under. Thompson shot a final round 66 and Rodgers carded a 67. It was the second win in as many weeks for Mills, a rising junior at Clemson University. Last week he won the US Amateur Public Links and earned an exemption into The Masters. Today's win at the Belfair Golf Club earns him a spot in the 2012 RBC Heritage. The Easley, SC resident is the first Clemson golfer to win the Players Amateur.
