Texas Tech leads Florida State by three at Tavistock Collegiate

Freshman Guillermo Pereira shot 63 on Sunday to lead his No. 7 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders to a three-shot lead over Florida State

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 19, 2014) — The No. 7-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders golf team capitalized three players in the top-five after one round at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational — an event they are co-hosting with the University of Central Florida. Freshman Guillermo Pereira carded a 9-under par 63 while sophomore Hannes Ronneblad and senior Clement Sordet posted 67's as Texas Tech leads by three over No. 2 ranked Florida State at Lake Nona Country Club in Orlando. The Seminoles of Florida State stand at 18-under, 270 while 12th-ranked Vanderbilt is in third place at 17-under, 271. The top-ranked team in the nation, the University of Illinois, is in fourth place at 12-under, nine shots back. The University of California, who just came off winning their host event, the Alister MacKenzie invitational, are tied for seventh place at five-under. Pereira, a native of Santiago, Chile, recorded nine birdies, including five on the front nine, en route to his opening-round 63.
