Texas A&M claims Shoal Creek Invitational

Texas A&M won its first victory of the season at the Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 26, 2018) – Texas A&M cruised to a nine-shot victory Tuesday at the Shoal Creek Invitational, finishing the tournament at 8 under. The Aggies were the only team to finish under par despite going 3 over in the final round.

"Anytime you get a win in this sport it's exciting, and we're thrilled to be coming home with the trophy," head coach JT Higgins said. "I'm proud of the guys for building up such a big lead that we were able to survive a pretty rough back nine. I think there were some valuable lessons learned on that back nine today. So to get a win, and still have some teaching moments is outstanding."

The Aggies wrapped up a second-round 11-under 277 on Tuesday morning after that round had been suspended due to lightning on the previous day. In the afternoon session at the Shoal Creek Country Club, Texas A&M shot a 3-over 291 to find the winners circle for the first time this season and the seventh time in the past two years.

Texas A&M players Bennett Sam was T-4 at 2 under while teammate Brandon Smith was right behind him with a 1-under total and in a tie for seventh.

Georgia Southern’s Steven Fisk and North Florida’s Phillip Knowles tied for medalist honors at 6 under.

North Florida finished second with a 1-over 865. Vanderbilt was third and Ole Miss was fourth.
