Matt Cordell and Bryant Lach increased their lead in the Champions Cup from one to five shots, shooting a crafty 5-under 66 in the third round at Champions Golf Club in Houston.
The local team’s round of 66 included six birdies and one bogey and put the leaders at 14 under par for 54 holes. Cordell and Lach are looking for their second Champions Cup title after winning their first in 2017.
Chasing the Texans, with 54-hole totals of 9-under 204, are the teams of Nick Ushijimia and Bowen Osborn with 1-under 70, Ty Comerford and Dustin Sloat with 2-under par 69 and Shane Heise and Justin Kaplan matched the leaders with their own 5-under 66 in Saturday’s third round.
The average team score for Day 3 was 72.10, which is the highest scoring average over the first three rounds on the challenging par-71 Cypress Creek course.
The final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
