Tennessee Mid-Amateur: Watford takes lead heading into final round

Kevin Watford takes advantage of first-round leader's collapse, jumps into lead at The Honors Course

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (August 28, 2014) — Kevin Watford leads after two rounds of the 2014 Tennessee Mid-Amateur Championship presented by Gentleman Jack hosted by The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. After an opening round of 3-under par 69, Watford would start out even-par on his first nine holes for Round 2. After the steady play Watford would turn with a near perfect second nine. Birdies at the par-5 second, par-4 fourth, and par-4 seventh led to a 36-33-69 total. Watford’s 69-69-138 places him three shots ahead of 2014 Tennessee State Amateur champion Tim Jackson. The third member of the group will be Ryan Greer of Knoxville who, after a blistering 5-under par 67 in Round 2, sits three strokes off the lead tied with Jackson. First-round leader Scott Kammann struggled to a 77 on Thursday, falling back into a tie for fourth and seven shots back. The final round will begin Friday morning at The Honors Course with the lead group teeing off at 10:00am.
