Stephens tops open division qualifier for San Francisco City

Jason Stephens was the top player after a wet weekend of qualifying at Lincoln Park

After two days of open qualifying for the San Francisco City Amateur, Jason Stephens turned in the best 18-hole score at Lincoln Park, a par-68 layout in San Francisco. Stephens managed to keep a relatively clean card with just four bogeys and the rest pars. His 72 left him with medalist honors by a shot.

Qualifying went off over two days at Lincoln Park, but with each player logging just one round. Conditions were wet after the Bay Area received a thorough soaking. It made Stephens’ steady round all the more impressive.

The low 192 scores following qualifying will be used to assign six flights of 32 players each, as well as the seeding for match play. Qualifying, as well as the first four open flight rounds will be played at Lincoln Park Golf Course. The semifinal and final rounds will be played at TPC Harding Park Golf Course.

Behind Stephens, who played on Sunday, Bobby Pereira was second with a 5-over 73. Pereira, who played on Saturday had a slightly more colorful, and his birdie at the 18th ultimately cost him a share of medalist honors.

Finn O’Kelly had a 6-over 74 on Saturday to leave him in solo third. Two men tied for fourth another shot back at 7 over, Tony Ralph and Chris Young.
