Wanting to end her amateur career on a high-note, Jaime Jacob did just that at the 6th annual SCGA Women’s Amateur at Goose Creek Golf Club.
Jacob, alongside runner up Briana Chacon, broke the former scoring record of 9-under set in 2018 by Alexa Melton.
Constant 100-degree temperatures could not keep up with Jacob’s hot play. Opening the three-day event with an 8-under 64, Jacob set the pace as she claimed a three-stroke advantage after one day of play.
The reigning D-II National Champion hailing from Cal State San Marcos slowed her roll in the second round as she traded five birdies with three bogeys en route to a 2-under 70 on Tuesday and sat 10-under for the championship.
One-shot back of Oregon Duck sophomore, Chacon, Jacob found her play she left behind on Monday. Two back of Chacon as the duo made the turn, Jacob needed to make a push in her final amateur event.
After three consecutive pars to open the backside, Jacob lit up the final six holes with five birdies to one bogey to shoot a 3-under 69 and surpass Chacon who carded a 72 as the championship came to a close.
Jacob now joins the likes of Andrea Lee, Lilia Vu, and Alyaa Abdulghany with the win.
