Smith charges to win Dave King Senior

Smith takes Dave King title in playoff over Bill Engel

HAYMARKET, Va. (July 25, 2012) -- Ted Smith won the 2012 Dave King Tournament at Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Va., in a playoff with Bill Engel. Smith carded a final round 70 to finish the three day event with scores of 71-73-70--214 while Engel posted 69-73-72-214. "I was very fortunate to win in a playoff with Bill," commented Smith after the round. "I had to birdie two of the last four holes just to tie him" In the playoff Smith got off to a shaky start by thinning his approach 45 feet past the hole while Engel was in close with an 8-footer for birdie. Smith managed to two-putt and Engel's birdie effort burned the edge. The playoff extended to three more holes with Smith making par on the 18th for the win. Third place finisher Stan Fischer carded 67-77-71--215, tied with second round leader Gary Strickfaden who signed for 69-71-75--215.
