Silverado Showdown: USC wins Third Straight Tournament

The victory for USC was their fifth of the year as they closed out regular season play

NAPA, CA (April 10, 2018) - The USC Trojans will enter postseason play swinging it as well as any team in the nation. On Tuesday the Trojans behind co-medalist Jennifer Chang finished 5-under and as the 10-stroke winner of the Silverado Showdown. The victory was the third straight for USC and their fifth of the season.

After beginning the day at the Silverado Resort and Spa two-strokes back USC climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a 6-under final round that was sparked by Allisen Corpuz's (T15; +2) career-best 5-under 67.

Helped by Corpuz's final round USC was the only team to finish under-par with Cal taking second at 5-over while Arizona, two-time defending champion Stanford and UCLA shared third at 6-over.

"This team continues to amaze me," USC head coach Andrea Gaston said. "They're playing patiently, playing smart, making a lot of good decisions. All of the work they put in to get ready for each event allows them to get out there, unafraid, and just perform." Co-medalist winner Jennifer Chang became the first freshman since Robynn Ree in 2015-2016 to finish in first place in 54-hole team event. Chang, who made her debut in February, had previously recorded a second and third place finish in her first four events before breaking through with a win in her fifth career start.

Chang combined rounds of 66-72-70 to finish 8-under and tied with UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit. For Tavatanakit it was her second shared medalist title of the season.

Also chipping in for USC were top-20 performers Alyaa Abdulghany (T19; +4) and Amelia Garvey (T19; +4).

Rounding out the top-five in the medalist standings were Cal's Jiyoon Jang and Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan in third place at 7-under while UCLA's Lilia Vu, Mika Liu of Stanford, Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State and Texas' Sophia Schubert shared fifth at 3-under.
