SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (May 16, 2014) -- Richard D Spangler shot a first-round 69 and leads by a shot in the Championship Division at the Signal Mountain Invitational at Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club.
Spangler leads a pair of competitors by a shot entering the second of three rounds in the stroke-play invitational.
Barry Hamilton and Brandon Cissom are tied for second place after shooting 70s in Round 1 while Michael McGowan and Steve Johnson sit tied for fourth after opening with 71.
All told, there are 10 players within four shots of the lead entering what should be a wild weekend at Signal Mountain.
In the Senior Flight, Mitch Hufstetler and Tom Baird share the lead after both players shot 72.
The event is a 54-hole stroke play flighted invitational and considered one of the oldest in the state of Tennessee and an annual showcase of the top players in the region.
