Shover jumps out to three-shot lead at Vermont Mid-Amateur

The only player under par after one round has a three-shot advantage with 54 holes to play

JAY, Vt. (August 21, 2014) — Despite a double bogey on hole nine, Gary Shover capitalized on a two-under par back nine, including one of just three eagles made on Thursday, to jump out to a three-shot lead at the Vermont Mid-Amateur. In second place in home course native Bryan Smith of Jay Peak Golf Club — home to this year's event. Smith shot 73, but was at one point at two-under through 13 holes but made three bogeys coming in. Three players are tied for third place with 74s on Thursday. Jay Peak is playing to 6,321 yards and is a par-72.
