Seaver Cup: Northern California wins 4th in a Row

The NCGA sweeps the three sessions in its annal battle against the SCGA, retaining bragging rights for another year

LA QUINTA, CA (December 15, 2017) - With bragging rights on the line, the NCGA's best pulled away the SCGA at the 10th Seaver Cup, giving the Southern team its fourth-straight loss in the event.

The SCGA tried to stay close early Thursday morning at Rancho La Quinta CC, earning 8 points to the NCGA’s 10 in Round 1 Four-Ball matches. The Foursomes matches in the afternoon needed to go the SCGA’s way to have a chance during Friday’s Singles, but the South was unable to come through, only earning 5 points to the NCGA’s 13.

Needing to mount a epic comeback during the Singles matches, the SCGA team of 12 men were unable to pull out the miracle, falling by the final score of 44-28. The overall record now leans in the NCGA's favor at 5-3-2.

The Cup utilizes a format similar to the Ryder Cup – three points are available for each match, one point for the front nine, one point for the back nine and one point for the overall match (any matches that are halved earn a 1/2 point).

The Seaver Cup is a biennial competition that pits the best NCGA tournament players against the top SCGA players, and encourages year-long competition amongst tournament players, camaraderie and a friendly battle between regional golf associations.
