Sean Dyer runs away with Apple City Amateur title

Playing Spring Hills Golf Course, Sean Dyer of Aptos shot six-under 138 to take the championship by six strokes

WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Sean Dyer captured the Apple City Amateur Championship this past weekend, shooting 68-70 at Spring Hills Golf Course in Watsonville to win by six strokes. Dyer, an Aptos resident, won the 2014 Santa Cruz City title, as well. Finishing in second place was Grady Smith of San Luis Obispo, who opened with 69 to sit just a stroke back of Dyer after round one but struggled to a 75 on Sunday. Third place went to CSU Monterey Bay golfer Nick Huff of Vancouver, Washington. He posted back-to-back rounds of 72. In the Senior Division, Frank Pieper shot 69 in round one, and that was all he needed. Despite a 78 on Sunday, he still bested Mark Miller by two shots. Miller posted 75-74, while Ray Kong and Jim Welsh tied for third at 151.
