SCGA Sr. Match Play: Top seed Burda loses

Favorite Jeff Burda cruised through his quarterfinal match but fell Tuesday afternoon to Greg Hetzer 6 & 4

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Aug. 7, 2012) -- The clear favorite to win the championship, 2011 SCGA Senior Amateur Champion Jeff Burda, who cruised through his quarterfinal match Tuesday morning, fell Tuesday afternoon to Greg Hetzer 6 & 4. Hetzer, of San Pedro, won holes 12 through 14 to end the match early and advance to the finals, where he will face No. 2 seed Jim Knoll. Knoll defeated Mark Miller of Antioch 4 & 2. Finding himself 6 up through 11 holes, Knoll held off an attack by Miller, who came within three with three holes to play. But a birdie by Knoll on the par 4 373-yard 16th hole secured the match for the 2011 NCGA Senior Player of the Year. The final match between Knoll and Hetzer will begin at 7:30 a.m.
