SCGA Senior: Doebler fires 70 to share lead

Rick Doebler, a Hacienda GC member, shot 70 today to grab a share of the lead with Craig Davis heading into the final round

LA HABRA HEIGHTS, California (June 27, 2017) -- Another round is in the books at Hacienda Golf Club and we find two names topping the leaderboard going into Wednesday’s final round. Craig Davis of Chula Vista, CA posted an even-par 71 today, which would be good enough to keep him neck-and-neck at one-over-par with Rick Doebler, who fired the low round of the tournament tuesday afternoon, a one-under-par 70. “Just played really solid all day, kept it in play all day, hit a lot of greens, putted really well. It was a very good round of golf for me,” offered Doebler of his performance today. The Hacienda Golf Club member from Fullerton played his first three holes at 3-under-par, making birdies on the 1st and 3rd. His first bogey of the day came at the 180-yard 4th hole. After a long string of pars, Doegler would birdie the par-5 10th hole, but after making par on holes 11 through 14, Doegler would make two costly bogeys on 15 and 17. Doegler still managed to finish off in style though, making a birdie on the par-4 18th and posting the first red number of the tournament. Craig Davis shot even-par in an extremely turbulent fashion, only carding nine pars in a round that included five birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey on the ninth hole. The pair is set to tee off at 9:40 AM tomorrow along with their closest chaser, former L.A. Senior Champ Michael Turner, who is one-back, posting consecutive rounds of 72. RED HOT START John Mack did the unthinkable on the front nine, posting 4-under 31 that likely put him in the 27-hole lead. "I started pulling a few iron shots on the back," said Mack. But I'll still take a 72. He stands 4-shots back at 146.
