MARYSVILLE, CA (July 12, 2018) – Kathleen Scavo is back on top at the Women’s Trans National Amateur after the third round at Peachtree Golf & Country Club. The California native, who is about to enter her senior season at Oregon, had three birdies Thursday on her way to a 2-under 70.
Scavo led the event after a first-round 68 but stumbled in Round 2 with five bogeys. This time, she has just a share of the lead. Ziyi Wang, a Stanford junior who hails from China, is also 6 under after 54 holes.
In addition to the Scavo’s resurgence, the leaderboard looks much different than it did after the second round. Then again, it was moving day.
Three collegians shared the lead, but each one of those players lost ground in Round 3. SMU’s Kennedy Pedigo and Colorado State’s Katrina Prendergast dove to T-9 and T-13, respectively. Pedigo had a 76 on Thursday and Prendergast had 77. Rino Sasaki, the Washington player who had the lowest score in Round 2 (68), returned a 2-over 74 and is tied for third place with Clare Amelia Legaspi, Amy Matsuoka, Samantha Hutchison and Kate Smith.
Smith had the round of the day with a bogey-free 6-under 66. It’s the best round of any competitor so far this week.
