Santa Barbara City: Brett Silvernail defends title

Silvernail's first-round 62 put him on top and he never looked back, clearing runners-up John Pate and Satch Hermann to win his second- straight title

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (May 27, 2014) -- Brett Silvernail shot 62-66-66 to win by six shots at the 2014 Santa Barbara City Championship held at Santa Barbara Golf Club. Silvernail is a junior at UCSB, where he plays on the golf team. His first-round 62 put him on top and he never looked back. On Sunday and Monday, solid rounds of 66-66 and a tournament total of 194 placed him clear of runners-up John Pate and Satch Hermann by six strokes. Held annually over Memorial Day weekend, the 54-hole stroke-play tournament (with a 36-hole cut) was marred by Friday's tragic shooting rampage in Isla Vista, near the UCSB campus. An emotional Silvernail -- his mother in attendance -- dedicated the victory to the six students who perished and the 13 who were injured. Dave Aarons (67-67-70) and Nicholas Jan (69-67-68) finished tied for fourth place.
