San Francisco City Senior: Semifinals Set

Past champions Gary Vanier and Jim Williams advance to the Semis along with San Francisco's own Randy Haag.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Defending champion Gary Vanier is one of four players to advance to the semifinals Sunday at the San Francisco City Senior Championship. Vanier, of Pleasant Hill, had his toughest test thus far, edging out Michael Hartshorn with a 1up victory. He'll have two more players to beat if he wants to defend his title, the first being Dean Prince who advanced with a 5&3 win over Charles Follett. Randy Haag also advanced to the semifinals with a 3&1 win over Bruce Cardinal. Haag, who's played in more USGA events than one can conceive, has never won this event. The man he faces, Jim Williams, has two SF City titles to his name and is coming off an upset over the number one seed Scott Anderson in a match that lasted 20 holes. Two great matches are in store when the Senior Championship continues March 12th.
