SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2008)--Former San Diego State golfer Jamie Puterbaugh (son of top-100 teacher Kip Puterbaugh) is very much in the hunt to win his fourth straight San Diego City Championship title after carding rounds of 71-69--140 at Balboa Park over the weekend to sit three strokes off the leader's pace.
Former SDSU teammate Cory Segall, a La Jolla High School grad, currently shares the lead with Pepperdine rising junior Shane Mason at 7-under-par. Both golfers carded identical rounds of 69-68--137.
In the senior flight, Howie Knodt carded back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 to open up a five-stroke lead over Gary McMinn. John Donnelly and Robert Stermon are each seven off the pace at 151.
It's a two-horse race in the women's division as Allison Goodman has a two-stroke lead after going 70-73--143. Mariko Makabe trails her, while all others are more than 10 strokes back.
The final round is set for Saturday, August 9 at Torrey Pines South Course.
