ROCKLEIGH – Long Island's Joe Saladino turned the race for the Metropolitan Golf Association's Player of the Year in his favor.
Saladino rallied to win the Bergen County Amateur Championship on Sunday at Rockleigh Golf Course to move a step closer to his second MGA Player of the Year title in three years.
Saladino, a resident of Huntington, N.Y., shot 4-under-par 67 during the afternoon round for a 2-under 140 to win the title in his debut by four strokes over Eric LeFante of Colts Neck.
"There are just a couple of events left," said Saladino, 30, an insurance broker and health club owner. "So whenever you can get some points, you want to try to take advantage of that."
